Is this good or bad art? - (A Guggenheim Grant Winner)

Published: Mon, 08/14/23

==========

Last year I got several letters from artists that were upset that one winner - Janice Nowinski - was making paintings that were not very good (they said). The artists were not happy that she won and they didn’t. Janice Nowinski makes small paintings about 8 x 10 inches and often smaller.

Have you ever felt that way? That your art is better than someone else's who is receiving shows and grants?

The good news, as I see it, is that it is not about some objective idea of what “good” art is, it is about your vision of what you like to make, and it either appeals to the jury or it doesn’t.

You decide, is this winner making art that is so much better than yours? Take a look at her work below and here is also a link to her website. (She has had about one exhibit a year by the way)

I can only help 1 more artist with the Guggenheim Grant and then my services will be closed for the year. This is your last chance to work with me.

Please reply to this letter for a detailed fee structure and for any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Brainard Carey
