How do patrons perceive the artist asking for support?

Published: Thu, 07/25/19

When do they resent you for asking?

And when do they brag about sponsoring you to all their influential friends?

Come join us on Monday 29th July 2019 at 12.00 pm EST and I’ll reveal what they really say behind closed doors:

I have been doing this for over ten years, and besides interviewing over 1000 artists and curators for Yale University Radio, I have also befriended major fundraisers.

Like Phong Bui of The Brooklyn Rail (who publishes a magazine in multiple cities and does not rely on advertising or sales at all)

And also the late Jonas Mekas who raised 2 million a year, every year, to fund his own avant garde theatre and archive.

I have talked with the development directors at major museums like The Whitney and asked about their techniques.

I have met with independent fundraisers as well, asked about their methods. I have met with organizations that do nothing but fundraise for other major institutions (that is, they do what’s called “donor prospecting”).

In short, the method I’ll be teaching you on Monday was developed through years of listening and experience in applying these ideas. (Artists I’ve taught have raised over $130,000 so far.)

I want to be VERY clear about one point:

This is not a system that is just for the U.S.

It is the same system that is used throughout the world, because patrons give support everywhere for the same reasons!

In short, you are in good hands.

Take the leap, and I’ll catch you. And train you.

I won’t allow you to crash.

Because the world needs your art.

Give me 60 minutes and I will turn you into someone who can easily find patrons that are interested in funding your particular work (even if you aren’t rich or connected and the thought of asking for money makes you want to puke in your purse).

See you on Monday!

PPS: Here are the kind of results most students see. These artists are not Chosen Ones seeded on Earth from a different planet. If they can do it, so can you:
