Wondering What’s Missing? It’s This…

A career in art is about so much more than knowing how to create. While it is important to spend many hours honing your craft and practice, there are other elements to a successful career that carry quite a lot of importance. One of these is the ability to write with clarity and authority. As a working artist, you will be called upon to create written biographies, statements, proposals and any number of other documents. It is important that you know how to navigate this piece and that you understand the significance of this.

Praxis student David recently learned firsthand just how much well-crafted documents matter. He put in the hard work of crafting a bio and statement and then had Praxis experts help him hone these documents. In so doing, he not only created two working written pieces to use going forward, he also discovered a newfound readiness when it came to putting his work out into the world. And his hard work is paying dividends. In his own words:

“Thank you Brainard Carey and Julia Tolstrup for your editing help and suggestions for my bio and statement. It really made a difference and got me moving forward to apply to shows. One photograph, “Mount Tam”, has just been accepted into “Coastal”, a group show in San Rafael, CA that runs from April 26 to June 7, 2019. Reception is Friday, May 10, 5pm – 8pm. Please stop in and say hello if you’re nearby.“
