How to present yourself on the international scene and meet curators

I want to share with you the true story of how this happened, because too often the Art World shows us only the glitter and not the glue.

This was a conversation that took place last month in the private Facebook group for Praxis Center members.

I am going to show you the entire thread without filtering anything, so you can see what really happens behind the scenes of all the successes that sometimes make you feel unworthy or “less than”.

Our story begins on a crisp October morning when my student Hyacinth posted her recent win in the group:

“So happy to report that 5 of my art pieces got picked up by a multinational company to display in their corporate office. They are paying me to rent my pieces for the year. They have the option to buy the artwork by the end of next
year and have it available for purchase by their employees and guests.”

Another student asked “Can you tell us anything about the process you went through to obtain this wonderful result?

This is what I love about the group, by the way… artists supporting each other, celebrating together, and generously taking you behind-the-scenes to walk you through exactly what they did so you know what really works in the Art Market today.

Hyacinth then shared everything.

I have to warn you though…

Her story is not the fairy tale you expect:

“I created 58 pieces of art in the 58th year of my life. Then all of a sudden I realized creating means nothing if the pieces just sit in your gallery and overflow into the hallways.

So, in August I put my art out in front of juried exhibitions.

I got into three of the five. The last one I did not get in - much to my dismay; however, the ladies told me about this company looking for art.

I did a bit of homework, found out what they liked and submitted 6 pieces. Wouldn’t you know it my homework paid off and 5 of the pieces got accepted!

In fact the last piece “Who Me” of the rooster was created specifically for them a couple of days before the submission.

My traditional painting “Tea House in Guangzhou” done in the old Masters style did not get accepted. In fact that took me the longest time to create and possibly it is my best painting! That was the first one I uploaded to the Fine Art America site in May this year.

I think it is important for artists to just explore what it is that people want and go out and create it. I also donate a lot of my work and 30% of any sale is currently pledged to my favorite charity. I hope this helps. I’m also a member of local arts organizations and am helping create awareness of great art right here in Dayton.”

As I pointed out in the group, this also speaks to the idea of just getting your work out there, because this happened through a contact that saw Hyacinth’s work, and so many more possibilities like this could happen by just having your work regularly out there.

So here is a not-so-hard question for you:

If all this comes from just putting your art out in front of local shows, what would happen if you could get your art juried into prestigious, international exhibits?

It’s easy to do the math.

What’s NOT so easy is figuring out HOW to get into those prestigious exhibits and get internationally recognised as an artist.

That’s why I’m teaching a free masterclass this Monday,  February 3rd (from 12pm to 1.30pm EST) on exactly that.

Give me 90 minutes, and I’ll give you my insider’s roadmap to get your international residency and exhibition in the next 6 months (PLUS $5k from a patron to fund your residency).

Grab your seat on Monday’s marathon training session here:

This is for you if you are looking to understand how the Art World really works, so you can exhibit more this year, get international visibility and sell your art at high prices.

See you in the masterclass,

Brainard
