Dear Artist,
Yesterday, one of the Praxis members whose work was reviewed by Katherine Anne Paul wrote us an email that said, simply:
“I’ve never felt so seen.”
What happened?
Katherine, curator of art at the Birmingham Museum of Art, joined us for a live roundtable and walked through artist portfolios—naming favorites, commenting on pieces, pointing out
clarity, mystery, tension, strength.
She selected Jeffrey Hartman, whose work she called “a love of surface and also a projected love of graphic.” She spent time with Jordan Wong’s layered symbology and Mutlu Yılmazer’s shifting landscapes.
It wasn’t just a critique. It was an education.
And this happens every week at Praxis.
It’s not performative. It’s not an audition. It’s a real conversation with real curators—who sometimes say, “You’ll be hearing from me.”
And then... they do.
This is Praxis. It’s not hypothetical. It’s happening now.
See you at the next roundtable?
The price to join Praxis annually and get in the portfolio they are is still $595—for now. When it increases to $1,200 (soon), the door won’t close—but it’ll be more expensive to walk through. And the monthly option? Great if you’re exploring. But the portfolio? That’s for annual members only.
Warmly,
Brainard Carey
