Lynne Cooke is a legendary curator who has championed the work of artists who are “outside” the traditional art system - artists who don’t have access to galleries. She has also curated biennials, written books and is the
kind of curator who can give you a truly international stage to show your work.
She is currently curator at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, and her résumé boasts a Venice Biennale (1986), a Carnegie International (1991) and a Sydney Biennale (1996).
Her book Outliers and American Vanguard Art (which is also a groundbreaking
exhibition that explored relations between self taught and avant garde artists) is one of her great contributions to the art world.
Because for all the artists that feel like they are outliers, outsiders, but know they are also deserving of the mainstream spotlight, that book and exhibition was and remains validating in an art world that can often feel like a group of insiders.
Earlier this year, we had the privilege of hosting Lynne Cooke at a recent Praxis Roundtable -- a weekly Zoom call where Praxis students meet and interact with influential collectors, curators and gallerists.
Here are some highlights from that Roundtable:
- Video Clip 1: Lynne is talking about how she prefers to curate fewer shows for a better understanding and appreciation. She suggests choosing specific interests for deep exploration.
- Video Clip 2: Lynne discusses how curators
choose artwork for exhibitions and suggests that artists should target curators with a known interest in their specific type of artwork.
As you can see, Lynne is a mover and a shaker, a leader who picks the artists for major museum shows and even Art Forum magazine asks her to pick the top ten shows she sees every year. Being her friend and on her radar can make all the difference in your career by getting into shows she curates.
In Praxis Center you are shown how to write to her so she responds and takes an interest in you.
- You get access to Lynne Cooke’s contact information - as well as the private contact details of 195+ other prestigious collectors, curators and art dealers…
- When
you enroll, you get access to the full, 1-hour recording of our Roundtable with Lynne Cooke. The insights Lynne Cooke shared will help you how she finds artists and why she is interested in artists that are on the margins and not getting visibility.
- In addition, as a Praxis member you also get to meet a new art world insider like Lynne Cooke every single week, live, at our Praxis Roundtable, which is a Zoom call with a different collector or curator each
week…
- 🔥NEW | Portfolio Sharing Service (Annual Members Only) 👉 We send your portfolio to curators before they even meet you. They’ve seen your work. They know your name. It’s like walking into a gallery where everyone already knows who you are.
- You’ll get my assistance to effectively reach out to the movers and shakers you meet at these Roundtables. I’ll give you two letter templates you can use, so that you don’t have to worry
about what to say and will have a better chance of getting a response back.
- Best part? You can ask me to personally edit these emails and letters before you send them out to make sure that they are compelling and you don’t get ghosted.
Plus: you also get personal access to me, Brainard Carey, and a suite of educational guides on topics ranging from social media tactics to reaching galleries and getting feedback on your
art.
Join Praxis Center Membership today and unlock a truly international circle of art world decision-makers who can support your studio practice from the blank canvas to the museum acquisition!
Here is the
thing:
I’m willing to bet that if you ONLY showed up for the weekly Praxis Roundtables over Zoom* and met the collectors, curators and dealers that are there, without doing ANYTHING else, you will at the very least 3X your investment right away.
Which is why I offer a money back guarantee if you are not happy.
*(And if you are unable to show up live for any of these sessions for
whatever reason, you get the recording and the contact info of the speaker afterwards.)
Ready to propel your art career? Enrolment closes Friday, July 18, 2025. No exceptions.

PS: Curious to see how the strategies you learn in Praxis translate to results in the real world? Check out this video from Praxis member Larry about how he secured a studio visit with a curator from a major museum/gallery. He became a member, attended a "meet the curator" event, and built a connection. After some delays due to the curator's transition, he persistently followed up without being too pushy. In the end he built a connection and got a studio
visit.
