Dear Artist,
Last week inside Praxis, a curator who worked on the Venice Biennale spent a full hour in conversation with our members.
She wasn’t on a stage.
She wasn’t speaking in art-speak or reading from prepared remarks.
She was on Zoom, in her home, talking directly to artists.
Reviewing work. Answering questions. Offering quiet, specific advice that came from years of curating major exhibitions.
It was, in a word, normal.
But it was also rare.
Because artists don’t usually get this kind of access. Not unless they’re represented. Not unless they’re introduced. Not unless someone vouches
for them.
Praxis exists to change that.
Each week, we invite curators—not just from galleries, but from biennials, museums, artist-run spaces, and global institutions—to join us in a Zoom room where the conversation is honest, direct, and mutual. These curators don’t show up to “lecture.” They show up to connect.
They also receive our Praxis Center Portfolio—a directory of member websites and portfolios, sent only to our network of curators, and updated regularly. This is not a public list. It’s not searchable. It’s trusted. And that’s why it works.
One of our members who had never been exhibited outside of her region was contacted directly by a curator who found her in the Portfolio. She was invited to submit work for a show in Berlin.
She didn’t apply. She didn’t pitch. She was seen.
This morning’s note is just a reminder of the real-world opportunities that Praxis members receive every single week.
And also, a reminder that today is the final day to join Praxis before the annual price increases from $595/year to $1,200/year.
→ Join Praxis before the price doubles
If you choose the monthly option next week at $120/month, or $59 now, you’ll still receive access to all the weekly sessions, all courses, and our member network. But the Portfolio remains exclusive to annual members—for reasons of quality
and clarity.
You don’t need to be famous to be included. You don’t need a certain kind of work or a certain kind of pedigree. What you do need is professionalism. A working website. A commitment to your practice.
That’s it.
You’d be surprised how far that goes.

I’ll be back in your inbox this afternoon with a concrete success story—one of my favorites—from an artist who used our grant writing course to secure $35,000 in funding.
But for now, I’ll leave you with this:
You don’t need permission to build the career you want. But you may need support, strategy, and connection. That’s what Praxis is for.
And this is the last day to step into it at the current rate.
With admiration,
Brainard Carey

P.S. A recent curator visiting Praxis has organized for Documenta. The one after that has curated at MoMA PS1. These are real opportunities for real artists—no gatekeeping required.
