Earlier this year, we had the privilege of hosting him at a Praxis Roundtable -- a weekly Zoom call where Praxis students meet and interact with influential collectors, curators and gallerists.
Here are some highlights from that Roundtable:
- Video Clip 1: He is talking about his complicated relationship with the idea of labeling his creations as “art” and how he feels uncomfortable with identifying himself as an artist. He mentions placing artists, even his friends, on a pedestal and how that makes him sensitive about competing with them. He struggles with the term “work” being
applied to what he creates, finding it hard to see his process as labor. Despite being a curator and art critic, he feels too personally involved to classify his own work as art or define its context clearly.
- Video Clip 2: He approaches curating as a vocation- a service to society, emphasizing
the importance of humility and focusing on underrepresented artists. He reflects on how working with artists isn’t about personal gain or reinforcing their status but about finding meaning beyond self-promotion. He shares an example from his experience with Jeff Koons, explaining how he distanced himself from Koons’ later fame to focus on discovering new artists who inspire him in the present and shaping exhibitions that introduce these artists to the public.
- Video Clip 3: He is talking about the nature of his relationships with artists, clarifying that most of them are professional rather than friendships. He acknowledges that his interactions are primarily work-related and notes that artists appreciate his objectivity. While he is open to learning and changing his views, he
understands that most of the art he encounters won’t fit his curatorial needs. Over time, he has grown more focused on the evolution of his own curatorial practice and how his interests have changed over the years.
Dan Cameron is a New York curatorial legend - founding Prospect New Orleans, a triennial that is a huge recurring exhibit, a champion of early and current LGBTQ art and always working on new
projects.

- ✨NEW THIS YEAR 👉 Your artwork will be shared with curators and collectors. Praxis will showcase your portfolio to art world decision-makers before these Roundtables, giving you a head start in building your career.
- You’ll get my assistance to effectively reach out to the movers and shakers you meet at these Roundtables. I’ll give you two letter templates you can use,
so that you don’t have to worry about what to say and will have a better chance of getting a response back.
- Best part? Mentoring. You can ask me to personally edit these emails and letters before you send them out to make sure that they are compelling and you don’t get ghosted.
Plus: you also get personal access to me, Brainard Carey, and a suite of educational guides on topics ranging from social media tactics to pricing to reaching
galleries and getting feedback on your art.
That said, I’m willing to bet that if you ONLY showed up for the weekly Praxis Roundtables over Zoom and met the collectors, curators and dealers that are there, without doing ANYTHING else, you will at the very least 3X your investment right away.
Which is why I offer a money back guarantee if you are not happy.
Join the VIP Edition of Praxis Center Membership (Monthly $59/m | Annual $595/yr) and unlock a truly international circle of art world decision-makers who can propel your career!
Enrolment closes

Artists who enrolled say they saw the membership as an investment in their art and an investment in themselves; a great way to connect with fellow artists and people in the industry.
