Would you like to meet this chief curator from London: Nicole Yip?

Rowan Coughlin buys art for collectors, that is her job. She explains how she does it and she also asks artists to write to her by email - more than once if she doesn’t answer the first time - she made clear. She wants to hear from artists, she wants to hear from you, she is always looking for art.
We hosted Rowan Coughlin at a Praxis Roundtable last month -- a weekly Zoom call where Praxis students meet and interact with influential collectors, curators and gallerists.
Here are some highlights from her Roundtable:
- Video Clip 1: She sees a contrast between the US and European art scenes. The US is more unregulated and free-spirited, like "cowboys," while Europe is more structured and regulated, with more paperwork. Working globally, she notices that bringing artists to the US is often more chaotic compared to Europe, where it's considered more commonplace.
- Video Clip 2: She is discussing the increasing focus of corporate entities on documenting their art collections, especially those acquired in the 80s or 90s. Art advisors are hired to identify noteworthy items and provide guidance on preservation. This documentation helps companies make informed decisions about retaining or reconsidering artworks, allowing them to plan for future acquisitions (for example, what are the
“gaps” in their collection they can buy new art to fill?) and maintain a comprehensive record of their art assets.
- Video Clip 3: She is discussing her experience with art advisory services, noting that while the pandemic has limited such activities, she initially helped people plan art-focused trips to events like art fairs or museums. Clients sought her assistance for creating itineraries, obtaining tickets, and arranging behind-the-scenes tours. This aspect became a part of her business, offering curated travel plans for art-related experiences, such as Art Basel in Miami. She also mentioned extending this service to international locations like Scotland, where she would leverage her networks to provide options for exploring galleries and museums.
As we come to the end, think about how nice it would be if you had all the storage space in the world because your art is selling faster than you can create it…
AND you don’t have to start investing major time in marketing art rather than making art - because you have someone doing that FOR you… someone like Rowan…
Think about it: Rowan Coughlin buys work and sells it to collectors all over the world, that is literally her full time job. She might like your work, she’s curious to know..
