Joëlle is an Art Advisor at Joëlle Romba Fine Arts where she helps collectors with advice on what to buy and what not to buy for their growing art collection.
We had the privilege of
hosting her at a recent Praxis Roundtable -- a weekly Zoom call where Praxis students meet and interact with influential collectors, curators and gallerists.
During this Zoom call, she is literally at a party of collectors, and she explains how she works with them to buy art from artists like you.
We’ll dive into her advice in a bit, but first I want to do a thought experiment with you:
Just picture a party like that for a second…
There is a bunch of European collectors chatting with their peers and Joëlle about this piece they just bought… brainstorming what to acquire next… asking for input on which direction to evolve their collection towards…
One of them says something that sparks an idea… Joëlle has a lightbulb moment and says, “You
know… how about this piece by such and such artist? Are you familiar with her works at all? It might be a great fit for your collection because…”
Here is the thing:
If she is talking about your work at one of her
collector parties, you are now in the inner circle of all those collectors as well.
Imagine what that would do for your career!
That’s exactly what I try to do for Praxis students.
First, I introduce them to all these art advisors, and collectors, and gallerists, and curators who can propel their career forward.
Second, I help them understand how the art world actually functions.
For example, let’s say you want to sell art to European or American collectors? They have different ways of buying you need to know about!
In our Roundtable, Joëlle explained why American collectors and European
collectors have different strategies - and how you should present yourself differently to different collectors.
