Behind-the-scenes: Praxis artist meets powerful curator / gets Zoom studio visit and a request for his art
Published: Thu, 01/20/22
Now imagine the curator didn’t know you from Adam before you reached out…
Sounds impossible, right? Almost a fairy tale?
Here is how Praxis student Dan met Pavel Pys:

5 min clip about how Praxis member Dan reached a very powerful curator from the Roundtable and got a Zoom studio visit and interest in his work! Dan also answers and supports another member’s issue with not hearing back from a curator, it's a wonderful example of the group dynamic: www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9uRIB-Fw2g
Let’s review the process:
- Dan attends a Praxis Roundtable where Pavel is a guest speaker (Praxis members meet a major collector every week in a live discussion)
- He writes the curator a letter after the Roundtable (More on this below)
- The curator answers immediately the next day. “We’ll talk to you in June”. (It’s May.)
- Dan waits for a month but doesn’t hear back.
- Sends a second email. Curator is out of town. So Dan calls again.
- After the 5th follow-up, the curator calls back to apologize.
- They have a studio visit over Zoom.
- The curator asks for the slides so he can show Dan’s work to the museum’s collections team.
What on earth did Dan say in that letter that made such a powerful, busy curator immediately write back?
Here’s the secret: He introduced himself using the Praxis letter format I taught him.
And now I want to teach you the same thing. To that end, I’m running a free workshop next week:

Join us live on 24th January at 1PM EST and I promise you will walk out of the session knowing exactly what it takes to land your first or next major collector.
>>> You can register for the workshop here (just click the link, no opt in required) <<<
(Registration closes next Monday the 24th of January, no exceptions.)
There’s also a big show-up live bonus that you get just by showing up live...
If you stay till the end of the workshop, I’ll give you the contact details of 2 major collectors!

PS: The workshop is only recorded for those that register, so click the link above even if you can’t make it to the live session.
